In their first season they reached the 6th place. Alba Iulia played until the season 1938/39, in the 2nd league and then descended into the Divizia C. From the 1942/43 season they played again in Divizia B, two years later again had the gear in the 3rd Liga be commenced. 1947 was allowed to rename it to " FC Unirea Alba Iulia ". From 1947 to 1970 Alba Iulia participated only in regional championships. In 1970/71 it rose again in the Divizia C. Nine seasons later, the club again reached the Divizia B. Between 1988 and 2003 they played in Divizia example, in 1997 we changed the club name to " FC Apulum Alba Iulia ". In the season 2002/ 03 they won the then coach Aurel Şunda the Divizia B and thus played the 2003/04 season, during which the former assistant coach Alexandru Pelici Şunda replaced, for the first time in Divizia A. In the first season reached the club table Rank 6 and was thus best climber before Petrolul Ploiesti and FC Bihor Oradea, who had both go back. After this sensational season Alba Iulia occupied in the season 2004/ 05 on the 14th place and therefore had to go back into the Divizia B. In the following season, which was addressed in July 2005 with Cornel Ţălnar, it went downhill. After 113 days in office Ţălnar was replaced by Neluţu Popa, who was replaced by Constantin Cârstea and his assistant coach Mihai Zamfir in January 2006. After the draw at home against CFR Timişoara Cârstea resigned on 15 April 2006, Zamfir became his successor. Despite the numerous coaching change, the club finished at the end of the season once again a descent rank.

Since there was already a second division in Râmnicu Vâlcea with CSM Ramnicu Valcea and there were no sponsors for a second team in Divizia B, sold Oltchim Ramnicu Valcea, one of sport climbers from the Divizia C, be right to start in the summer of 2006 at FC Municipal Apulum which skirted the descent in this way and then changed its name to FC Unirea 2006 Alba Iulia. In the second half of the season 2006/ 07 Mihai Zamfir came back after the home defeat against Politehnica Timişoara II on 21 April 2007. Under the former assistant coach Adrian Bicheşi, which was supported by the team captain, goalkeeper Gabriel Rotaru, we finished the season in fourth place in the table. End of May 2007 signed George Ciorceri a two-year contract as head coach, but resigned the following season on 1 October 2007 and was replaced by the returnees Aurel Şunda. Again this was the fourth place in the standings can be achieved. In the 2008 /09 season they won the coach Adrian Falub, who had replaced the previously dismissed on the day Aurel Şunda on 7 April 2009, the League II and rose after four seasons and again in the first league of Romania. Falub was released after the 20th matchday of the 2009/10 season, but also the obligation of the former Bosnian-Herzegovinian national team coach Blaž Slišković on 12 March 2010 did not prevent the immediate descent.
