Filip Novák

Filip Novák ( born May 7, 1982 in České Budějovice, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey player who is under contract with the OHK Dynamo of the Kontinental Hockey League since May 2010.

Career

Filip Novák began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the young field of HC České Budějovice, where he was active until 1999. Then the defender moved for three years to the Regina Pats in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 in the second round than a total of 64 players from the New York Rangers, for whom he never played, however. Instead, he stood from 2002 to 2005 for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League on the ice, where he missed the entire 2003/04 season due to injury. In the summer of 2005, he signed with the Ottawa Senators, for whom he made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2005/06 season. In his rookie year, he played eleven games for the Canadians. He spent the rest of the season, however, at their farm team in the AHL, the Binghamton Senators.

For the 2006/07 season Novak signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, for in the NHL, he was on the ice six times. Again, however, he ran on mostly in the AHL farm team for the Syracuse Crunch. After he could not prevail in the NHL, the links Sagittarius returned after eight years in North America in his Czech homeland, where he received a contract with his former club HC České Budějovice in the Extraliga. For the team with which he failed only in the playoff semi-finals on HC Energie Karlovy Vary, he scored a total of 57 games in two goals and also had two assists. For the 2008/ 09 season, the former youth international joined Dinamo Riga in the newly-formed Continental Hockey League, where he scored 53 games 18 points scorer. After just one year he left the Latvians back to play for their league rivals HK MVD Balaschicha. For the 2010/11 season he joined its successor club OHK Dynamo, for which he has performed since then.

Internationally

For Novák Czech Republic took part in the junior level at the U18 World Youth Championship in 1999 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2002. In the senior level, he was so far only in the 2010 World Cup squad in his country, in which he became world champion at first with the team.
