Fontenelle (Territoire de Belfort)

Fontenelle is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fontenelle is at 341 m above sea level, about seven kilometers east of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, in the valley of Autruche between the forest areas of the Bois de Besson Court in the north and the Grands Bois in the south.

The area of ​​1.75 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area is traversed in a northwest-southeast direction from the valley of Autruche which opens below the village to the Madeleine and ensures the drainage of the Bourbeuse to Allaine. The flat valley floor has a width of about 400 m. In Fontenelle Autruche the inflow obtained by the Clavelière. To the north of the municipality floor extends to the edge of the Bois de Besson Court. South of Autruche the slope rises gently to the adjacent plateau of Les Grands Bois. Here the highest elevation of Fontenelle is achieved with 369 m.

Neighboring communities of Fontenelle are Chevremont the west and north, Petit- Croix in the east and Novillard and Vézelois in the south.

History

Is first mentioned Fontenelle in 1458. It was under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau Fontenelle came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. 1973 Fontenelle was merged with Chevremont, but received its independence in 1977 as a community back. Ecclesiastical belonged Fontenelle always Chevremont.

Attractions

Population

With 154 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is one of Fontenelle to the smallest municipalities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Since then, the population remained at an approximately constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Fontenelle was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Many workers are also commuters who do their work in the surrounding larger towns and in the agglomeration Belfort.

The village is located off the major road links on a secondary road that leads from Belfort to Montreux -Chateau. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about six kilometers. Another road connection with Novillard.
