Lebetain

Lebetain ( German former lovers Thal ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lebetain is located on 414 m above sea level, three kilometers south-west of Delle and about 14 kilometers east of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the northern foothills of the Jura, on a hill west of the valley of Saint- Dizier, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​4.84 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of Saint- Dizier, which extends in a south-north direction and is drained from the battery to Allaine. Various short side valleys open out to the main valley, which reaches a Talbodenbreite of more than 500 m below Lebetain. The valleys are incised in the northern foothills of the Jura formation, which here descends gradually to the flat land of the Burgundian Gate. In the vicinity of Lebetain the plateaus are partly, and partly covered with arable and meadow land with forest. To the west the municipality area extends to the height of Saint- Dizier (up to 502 m), which separates the valleys of battery and Feschotte. In the southeast, La Vie de Porrentruy is achieved on the high plateau with 507 m the highest elevation of Lebetain in the forest area.

Neighboring communities of Lebetain are Saint-Dizier -l'Évêque in the south, Fêche -l'Église in the west, dip to the north and the Swiss community Boncourt in the east.

History

The territory of Lebetain was settled very early, which could be demonstrated by means of remains of a Neolithic grave as well as of Merovingian graves. Is first mentioned Lebetain in 1150 under the name Libeten. Since the beginning of the 14th century the village was Delle under the rule. In the first half of the 14th century came Lebetain under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau it came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 Lebetain belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Together with Joncherey Lebetain was merged in 1972 with dent, but received in 1979 back its independence.

Attractions

The center of Lebetain is characterized by a number of rural farmhouses. Near the creek battery is the church of Saint- Gérard ( 1959). Also worth seeing are the Lavoir of 1852 and a Calvary of 1628.

Population

With 448 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Lebetain one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​230-260 people, a significant population growth was recorded particularly from 1950 to 1980. Since then, the population remained at an approximately constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Lebetain was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in urban Belfort and Montbéliard.

The village is located off the major road links on a secondary road that leads from dent to Saint - Dizier- l'Évêque. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 14 kilometers. Further road links exist with Fêche -l'Église and Villars- le -Sec.
