Valdoie

Valdoie (obsolete: Wedau ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Valdoie Belfort.

Geography

Valdoie is located on 377 m above the sea, about four kilometers north of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The largest suburban community of Belfort extends in the foothills of the Vosges, on both sides of Savoureuse that here from the pool of Giromagny through a gap between the hills of the Montagne de Salbert (in the west ) and the Forêt de Roppe (in the east ) in the territory of the Burgundian gate out occurs.

The area of ​​4.66 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the northern part of the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). History

Valdoie probably originated in the 11th century at a ford of the Savoureuse. Early name of the place are Vaydoie, Waido, Val d' Oye and Valdoye. The place name is etymologically vadum (Latin for ford ) and oye (Celtic for water flow; Oye was the former name of Savoureuse ) interpreted. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Counts of Montbéliard, Valdoie belonged to the rule Rosemont. This came mid-14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 Valdoie belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France.

During the 19th century the industrialization of lying on the northern edge of Belfort town began. Of significance were the metalworking industry ( Page, since 1852 ) and the textile industry ( Dollfus and Noack, 1898). The construction of the railway line from Belfort to Vesoul Valdoie was linked to the French railway network. With 5233 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Valdoie one of the largest municipalities in the department of Territoire de Belfort. The population growth of Valdoie took place in several stages. The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road that leads from Belfort to Giromagny. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about five kilometers. Further road links exist with Évette - Salbert Éloie and Offemont. With Belfort Valdoie is connected by a bus. The municipality had a station on the railway line Paris -Mulhouse.
