Franklin County (Idaho)

Franklin County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Preston.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Idaho, on the south by Utah, is about 50 km to the east of Wyoming and has an area of 1731 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Oneida County, Bannock County, Caribou County and Bear Lake County.

History

Franklin County was formed on January 30, 1913 from parts of Oneida County. It was named after Mormon leaders Franklin D. Richards.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Franklin County 11,329 people in 3,476 households and 2,874 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer.
