Franklin County (Idaho)
Franklin County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Preston.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Idaho, on the south by Utah, is about 50 km to the east of Wyoming and has an area of 1731 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Oneida County, Bannock County, Caribou County and Bear Lake County.
History
Franklin County was formed on January 30, 1913 from parts of Oneida County. It was named after Mormon leaders Franklin D. Richards.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Franklin County 11,329 people in 3,476 households and 2,874 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.11 percent White, 0.11 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 3.42 percent from other races groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.22 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,476 households out of which 48.0 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 73.6 percent were married couples living together. 5.8 percent were single mothers and 17.3 percent were non-families. 16.0 percent of all households and 8.9 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.24 and the average family size was 3.64 persons.
37.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.3 percent 18-24 Years, 24.2 percent between 25 and 44, 17.5 percent between 45 and 64 years. 11.7 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 98.3 males.
The median household income was $ 36,061, and the median income for a family $ 40,185. Males had a median income of $ 30,071, women $ 21,077. The per capita income was $ 13,702. 5.4 percent of families and 7.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
