The National Highway 2, better known as Freeway 2, is a highway in Taiwan. The highway connects the airport of Taipei with the Freeway Freeway 1 and 3 south-west of Taipei. The road is 20 km long.

Course

The Freeway 2 begins at the terminals of the International Airport Taipei and there expanded with four lanes in each carriageway. The highway runs in a southeasterly direction along the cities Dayuan and Dajhu. This is followed by a large interchange with the freeway 1, a long-distance highway from Taipei to Kaohsiung in the south of the country. From this cross the highway is expanded only with six lanes; it leads past the city Taoyuan. Not far from the city ends the Freeway 2 on a motorway junction with the freeway 3, which runs as the Freeway 1 in the south of Taiwan.

History

In 1980 opened the new international airport Taipei, it was started with the construction of the Freeway 2. On August 24, 1997, the construction was completed. Since then, the airport has a direct connection to the two north-south highways in Taiwan, Freeway 1 and 3 The track was released with a speed of 90 km / hr. In April 2003, the top speed was increased to 100 km / hr. On 23 January 2006, the motorway junction Dajhu was opened to traffic.

With the increase in traffic to the airport and the city's growth Taoyuan also the congestion increased significantly. Therefore, since 2009 the widening of the freeway two to four lanes per carriageway on the stretch between the airport and the cross with the freeway and one to three lanes in each lane on the section to the interchange with the freeway 3 out is made. This project was completed in April 2012.

Traffic

In the year 2009 60.000 vehicles were counted daily to and from the airport. On the route from Freeway 1 to Taoyuan a number of more than 110,000 vehicles was determined daily. Only 20,000 vehicles drove by this traffic count daily on the freeway 3
