Georgetown County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Georgetown.

Geography

The County is located in the east of South Carolina, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​2681 square kilometers, of which 570 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Marion County, Horry County, Berkeley County, Charleston County and Williamsburg County.

History

Georgetown County was formed in 1769. It was named after King George II of Great Britain, King of Ireland, Duke of Brunswick- Lüneburg ( Hanover) and German Elector.
