Grinzane Cavour

Grinzane Cavour ( Piedmontese Grinsane ) is a town in north-west Italy, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont with 2020 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

The name of the place is in Italy and beyond, known for the eponymous literary prize Premio Grinzane Cavour, which is awarded annually there. The original name Grinzane was supplemented by the addition of Cavour to honor the long-time mayor (1832-1849) and later founder of the state of Italy Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour.

Specialty

Every year here in November a truffle auction held for charitable purposes. In November 2006, a buyer from Hong Kong auctioned 1.5 kg truffles for a total of 125,000 euros.

Grinzane Cavour is surrounded by vineyards, famous particularly for the red wine Barolo. The castle houses the Enoteca the Piedmont region with wine exhibition and tasting. In Grinzane Cavour also vines for the Dolcetto d' Alba, grown a red wine with DOC status. The berries of the grape varieties Pinot Noir and / or Chardonnay may be processed for sparkling wine Alta Langa.

Geography

The municipality covers an area of 3.68 km ². Neighboring municipalities are Alba, about 7 km north-east, and Diano d' Alba, about 6 km south-east.
