Habovka

Habovka (Hungarian Habovka, Polish Habówka ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 1363 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Tvrdošín, a part of the Žilinský.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains Skorušinské Hills, not far from the Western Tatras in the valley of the brook Studený creek at the confluence with the Blatná. The center is located at an altitude of 730 m nm and is 17 kilometers away from Tvrdošín.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1593 as Habowka writing and was founded by Wallachian law. He belonged to the manor of Orava Castle.

1778 were counted 350 residents in 1828 121 houses and 793 inhabitants. Because of the less fertile soils were linen and shingle manufacturing main sources of income, often had to seek residents work in other counties.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Habovka 1,352 inhabitants, of whom 1,342 Slovaks, two Czechs and one Russian; a resident had a different ethnic group. Six residents did not know. 1,299 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, eleven residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and the Orthodox Church; three residents were other denomination. 15 residents were non-denominational and 18 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
