Hönningen

Hönningen is a municipality in the district of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Altenahr.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Ahr valley, in a line extending to the northwest loop of the River Ahr.

Distance default is Hönningen about 7 km southwest of Altenahr and 23 km southwest of Bad Neuenahr- Ahrweiler, as well as 12 km from Adenau and the Nürburgring. Default traffic Hönningen via the B 257 Bonn - Bitburg or with bus links to breakpoint Ahrbrück on the Lower Ahrtalbahn achieve.

History

Hönningen

The name Hönningen indicates a Frankish settlement. It was formerly called Hunighofen. Ever since the mid-7th century, the Abbey of St. Arnulf of Metz is wealthy in Hönningen. The dialectal " Hünge " has its origin here.
