House of Dampierre
Dampierre was the family of the lords of Dampierre -sur- l'Aube who came by marriage into the possession of numerous other possessions in France, but they could not keep. Among these are:
- The rule of Bourbon
- The counties of Nevers, Auxerre, Tonnerre and Rethel
- The County of Flanders
- The Margraviate of Namur
- The Free County of Burgundy
- The county of Artois
- The Duchies of Brabant and Limburg
The house Dampierre thus represents not only the matriarchs of the Bourbons and the House of Burgundy, but also a substantial part of the territorial foundations of these families.
