Igor Vladimirovich Glek (Russian Игорь Владимирович Глек; born November 7, 1961 in Moscow ) is a Russian chess player, trainer and author.

Life

Igor Glek has a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Moscow in 1983. Until 1986 he worked as a merchant. Then he made two years military service in the Soviet Army. Since 1989 he has been a professional chess player, grandmaster, he was in 1990. In 1994 he moved to Germany. In the Chess League, he plays for Sportfreunde Katernberg. He is a member of the Association of Chess Professionals. Since 2010, he has the title FIDE Senior Trainer.

Achievements

Igor Glek won more than 100 international chess tournaments, including the 1990 World Open in Philadelphia, 1998 Open in Vienna, 1999 Open in Utrecht and in 2002 shared the Open in Zwolle.

With its highest ever number of 2670 in July 1996 he reached number 12 in the FIDE world ranking list.

The Four Knights move order 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 the 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.g3 is called Glek variant.
