Igor Khenkin

Igor Khenkin (Russian Игорь Хенкин, Igor Chenkin; born March 21, 1968 in Vladimir, RSFSR ) is a Russian- German chess player.

Career

At the age of 11 years Igor Khenkin won the men's championship of the circle Vladimir and was already 13 years old junior national champion of the under 16 year olds. His coaches included, among others, Mark and Alexander Nikitin Dworezki who also oversaw former world champion Garry Kasparov and seconded.

In 1990 he was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE, 1992, he was awarded the grandmaster title. Towards the end of the 1990s played Khenkin short time for the Israeli Chess Federation, but changed in 1998 due to disagreements with Israeli officials back to the Russian Chess Federation back.

Khenkin came to Germany in 1996, his parents had previously emigrated from Russia and based in Weilburg ( Hesse).

Khenkin now has the German nationality.

Achievements

Khenkin won the 1991 Paris Championship, the open and shared 1st place in the Cansys tournament in Budapest. In 1992, he won the tournament in Tel Aviv together with Ilia Smirin. A total of five times he won the Chess Open of Geneva (1994, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2003 ). He participated in the FIDE knockout world championship 2001/2002 in Moscow, but failed in the second round in the " tie-breaker " to Rustam Kasimjanov, the FIDE World Champion of 2004.

Khenkin has taken part in the German Championships five times.
