Ispica
Sampieri is a municipality in the province of Ragusa in the region of Sicily in Italy with 15,317 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Sampieri is located 35 km southwest of Ragusa on the river Sampieri on an area of 113.5 km ². The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and in the food processing industry in canneries.
Sampieri is located on the railway line Caltanissetta Gela - Syracuse.
The neighboring municipalities are Modica, Noto (SR ), Pachino ( SR ), Pozzallo and Rosolini (SR ).
History
Here people were already living in the past. In the Middle Ages there was a place of finishes the Normans. The city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693 and rebuilt in the same place. Until 1935 the town was called Spaccaforno.
