Jenico Preston, 14th Viscount Gormanston

Jenico William Joseph Preston, 14th Viscount Gormanston ( born June 1, 1837 Gormanston Castle, County Meath, Ireland, † October 29, 1907 in Dublin) was an Anglo - Irish colonial administrator and Governor of British Guiana and Tasmania ( 1893 to 1900 ).

Life

Preston went in 1855 to army and fought as a lieutenant in India during the uprising of 1857. 1860 he resigned from the military and was 1866-1868 Treasurer of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.

In 1885 he was appointed Governor of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean, 1887-1893, he was Governor of British Guiana. August 8, 1893 to 1900 Preston was Governor of Tasmania.
