Charles Du Cane

Charles Du Cane ( born December 5, 1825 Ryde on the Isle of Wight, United Kingdom, † February 25, 1889 on the family estate Braxted Park, Essex ) was a conservative British Member and 1868-1874 Governor of Tasmania.

Life

Du Cane was you born in 1825 as son of Charles Cane of Braxted Park and Frances Prideaux -Brun. He attended Charterhouse School in Surrey and later Exeter College, Oxford. From 1848 to 1855 you had Cane batsman in the team of the Marylebone Cricket Club.

In 1852 he was first elected to the British House of Commons (House of Commons ). The election was, however, a little later invalidated after it was revealed that you Canes employees had paid bribes; Du Cane should have known nothing of it. In 1857 he was again elected to the House of Commons, and retained the office until 1868.

1869 You was appointed Governor of Tasmania and sworn in on January 15 in Hobart cane. His tenure was marked by a strong upturn in the colony, mainly due to increasing industrialization, a commodities boom and improved communication between Tasmania, mainland Australia and England. In November 1874 you left Cane Hobart and was named after his return to England, Knight of the Order of St Michael and St George. In 1889 he died at the family seat Braxted Park near the village of Great Braxted.
