Jerchel is a district of the Hanseatic City Guard Insert in the Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Jerchel situated about ten kilometers north of Calvörde between the Colbitz - Letzlinger Heath and Drömling Nature Park. Jerchel is located about ten kilometers southwest of the capital Gardelegen.

Policy

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 5 May 2003 by the regional council of Magdeburg.

The place Jerchel was created by settlement of 12 farmers, who with their farm wagons from Tangermünde coming, they settled there and founded the village. The half zwölfspeichige cartwheel is as common figure, a symbol of the 12 farm wagons of the peasant settlers. According to historical traditions of the place name Jerchel comes from the vernacular name Gerkel for the frequently growing in the area of arable vetch, also called wire-haired Wicke. The arable plant anchors to their location determined with the plants surrounding it, and is therefore in rural areas a symbol of rootedness and attachment to the homeland.

Church

The altar in the church is a carved Jerchler from the year 1516. It shows various saints. In the center of the Holy Virgin and Child standing on a crescent moon.
