John G. Campbell

John Goulder Campbell ( born June 25, 1827 in Glasgow, Scotland, † December 22, 1903 in Prescott, Arizona ) was an American politician. Between 1879 and 1881 he acted as delegate to the Arizona Territory in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

John Campbell came in 1841 in the United States and settled down first in New York State. There he attended the public schools. In 1849 he moved to California where he held various professions. In 1863, he finally came to Prescott in what is now Arizona. There he became involved in trade and animal husbandry.

Political career

Campbell was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1868 and 1874 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Arizona Territory. At the same time he was also District ( County Supervisor) in Yavapai County. In the congressional elections of 1878 he was nominated by his party against the incumbent Hiram Sanford Stevens for the position of the Congress delegates and subsequently elected by the voters in this office. He was able to complete a parliamentary term as a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives between 4 March 1879 to 3 March 1881.

After the end of his time in Congress Campbell again devoted his private business in Arizona, including now also included the hotel business. John Campbell died in December 1903 in his home town of Prescott.
