Karan English

Karan English (born 23 March 1949 in Berkeley, California) is an American politician. Between 1993 and 1995, she represented the sixth electoral district of the State of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Karan English attended until 1967 the Enterprise High School in Redding and then to 1969 in the same city the Shasta Junior College. This was followed by studies at the University of California in Santa Barbara and then to 1973 at the University of Arizona. At Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, she finished her studies.

Political career

Karan English was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1981 and 1987 she was Landrätin ( County Supervisor) in Coconino County, Arizona, and from 1987 to 1991 she was a Member of the House of Representatives from Arizona. Then they belonged between 1991 and 1993 to the State Senate. In the congressional elections of 1992, she was elected to the newly created sixth electoral district of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives. She was even supported by former U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater of the Republican Party. Moreover, their choice was in the then federal trend. At that time also succeeded Democrat Bill Clinton to win the presidential election.

After Isabella Greenway Karan English was only the second woman representing the State of Arizona in the House of Representatives. She stepped up her new post on January 3, 1993, completed a two -year term. In the congressional elections of 1994, it was subject to Republicans JD Hayworth. Today English works at Northern Arizona University in the Center for Sustainable Environments.
