The Rajongemeinde Jonava ( lit. Jonavos rajono savivaldybė ) is one of the 60 self-governing communities of Lithuania. It not only covers the city Jonava the three towns ( miesteliai ) Panoteriai ( 399 E. ), Rukla ( 2376 E. ) and Žeimiai ( 962 E., mentioned in documents in 1363 ) and 277 villages, including Upninkai with 1019 inhabitants.

Geography

The lowest places in the valleys of Neris ir šventoji. In the Rajongemeinde there are 7 lakes and 4 reservoirs. Through community Neris, šventoji, Lankesa flow ( in the northwest) and Širvinta ( on the eastern edge of the community). There are many places with foreign names: Šveicarija ( Switzerland ), Paryžius (Paris), Londonas (London), Venecija ( Venice).

History

Žeimiai 1319 was mentioned by Maciej Stryjkowski ( 1547-1593 ) in the description of the Battle of Gediminas with the Teutonic Knights in 1363 and Zeymen in historical sources. 1364 Sviloniai was mentioned in Kreuzritterkroniken and 1382 Kulva in the new Prussia Chronicle. 1522 mentioned Lipnikai and estate Lipnikai. The manor belonged to the Skorulskiai, so the place was called 1592 Skaruliai. Middle of the 18th century, bought the estate Kosakovskiai Skaruliai. After 1750 was on the other bank of the Neris River, the town Jonava.

The Rajon Jonava was in June 1950 from 14 Circling the Kaunas district, 8 from the Orbiting Kėdainiai district, one within the district Širvintos and 4 Circling of Ukmergė district. From 1950 to 1953, the Rajon belonged to the territory of Kaunas. December 1962 was the Rajon Jonava affiliated with the Rajon Kaunas, but in 1965 explored again. 1995 Rajongemeinde Jonava was founded in Kaunas district. October 2009 we made ​​48 subdistricts ( seniūnaitija ).

Religion

In 1622 the Catholic Church Skaruliai was built. 1750 was built in Jonava the first wooden and 1793, the second Catholic church. 1893 lived 3069 Jews (92 % of the 3350 population ) in the city Jonava and 1932 there were seven synagogues. So far, three Orthodox churches have been preserved. The Dean's Office Jonava the Roman Catholic Diocese Kaunas has eight parishes (8 churches, chapels 5 ).
