Kadnikov

Kadnikow (Russian Кадников ) is a small town in north-west Russia. It is located in the Vologda Oblast and has 4796 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 45 km northeast of Vologda Oblasthauptstadt the river Sodima in the catchment area of the Northern Dvina.

Kadnikow is the Rajon Sokol subordinated administratively. The nearest town and district center Sokol is located 12 kilometers southwest of Kadnikow.

History

Kadnikow arose from a 1492 set up sentries, who served the protection of a northern Russian trade route originally. The place name is derived from the Old Russian Occupation kadnik (such as " cooper " ), which points to the former importance of the place for the craft.

1780 Kadnikow received in the course of an all-Russian administrative reform municipal law and was in use until the 20th century district town in Vologda Governorate of the Russian tsarist empire. However, after the beginning of the 20th century, the main line of the Russian Northern Railway of Vologda was moved to Archangel, bypassing Kadnikows, the city lost economically important.

Economy and Transport

Kadnikow is predominantly agricultural until today. The most important industrial enterprise is the food factory Wologodski, which is well known for its potato chips.

Over and above the line passing through Kadnikow highway M8 bus services in major cities of Vologda Oblast and Arkhangelsk. A direct railway connection is still lacking: the nearest railway station is 20 km away from the city near Sokol.

Attractions

The old town around the Rosa Luxembourg Street is dominated by one-to two -story, partly wooden buildings. The main attractions Kadnikows heard the City History Museum, the Grigori - Pelschemski Chapel and the Prophet Elijah 's Church from the 17th century, located three kilometers outside the city.
