Kuybyshev, Novosibirsk Oblast

Kuibyshev (Russian Куйбышев ) is a town in Novosibirsk Oblast (Russia) with 45,299 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It is not to be confused with the metropolis of Samara, the 1935 to 1990 also named Kuibyshev.

Geography

The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian Plain, about 300 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Novosibirsk, the river Om, a right tributary of the Irtysh. The climate is continental.

The city of Kuibyshev Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Kuibyshev was anheutiger place in 1772 and received in 1782 as Kainsk city law. The present name, after the Soviet politician Valerian Kuibyshev, the city received 1935.
