L'Hôpital-Saint-Lieffroy

L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy is located on 337 m, 9 km northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 27 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a small valley on the edge of Kalkhochfläche between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, at the northwest foot of the Bois de Montfort.

The area of ​​3.43 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The main part of the area is occupied by a small valley, which opens east to the Doubs Valley. The southern boundary runs along a wooded height ( Bois de la charm and Bois de la Baumotte ) that L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy separates from the Doubs Valley. Here, the highest point of the municipality is achieved with 445 m. To the north, the municipality's area extends to the adjacent Kalkhochfläche ( to 420 m).

Neighboring communities of L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy are Fontaine -lès- Clerval in the north, Clerval to the east, Hyèvre -Paroisse in the south and Voillans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages was located at today's village a hospice. The village belonged to the Kastlanei Clerval, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The village chapel of L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy was rebuilt in 1957.

Population

With 96 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. During the 20th century, the population moved always in the range between 50 and 90 people.

Economy and infrastructure

L' Hôpital- Saint- Lieffroy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In particular, the horse breeding has an important role today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.
