Lägerdorf

Lägerdorf is a predominantly industrial in character municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. Since 1 April 2003 it belongs to the Official width castle. The town is dominated by the cement factory that is already visible from afar in the flat countryside.

Geography and transport

Lägerdorf is about five kilometers southeast of Itzehoe at the Federal Highway 23 from Hamburg to Itzehoe. The immediate surroundings of the town dominates the cement industry in the form of chalk pits ( English chalk pit chalk pit Schinkel, chalk pit Heath Road, Chalk pit Saturn and some other older small pits, most of which have now been filled in again ).

Although Schleswig -Holstein was formed during the Ice Age, which especially in parts of the Geest ( High Geest ) and in East Holstein hill country, caused by ground moraines and end moraines of melting glaciers, it is clear there are some points, which is different geological profile. Lägerdorf is located in one of these areas.

The substrate in Lägerdorf consists of an approximately 400 meter thick layer of very pure chalk, so of dead microscopic sea creatures which can also be detected in fossils. This chalk layer was formed in the Senonian, the recent formation of the Upper Cretaceous and is interspersed with relatively few flint stone benches. This layer was raised and arched, so that it reaches the surface in the Tertiary by a salt dome.

History

The place was first mentioned in the 13th century, but probably founded in the second half of the 12th century by Dutch settlers. He was originally called Hollendersdorpe or also for a name for Dutch dike builders Legerdorpe.

The industrialization in the 19th century changed the place sharply after chalk has been found and the cement industry settled in Lägerdorf in 1862 and the village was a national economic importance.

1863 Alsen'sche Portland Cement factories were founded by Otto Friedrich Alsen, 1884 North German by ten merchants the width Burger Portland Cement Factory. The merger of the works carried out in 1972, since 2003 it operates under the name Holcim.

Through the exploitation of the chalk pits and the associated groundwater lowering, problems occurred with the water supply of the town, which were solved by a dedicated water tower, the plant from 1938.

April 1, 2003 Lägerdorf gave up his office freedom and joined the Office width castle.
