Geography

Geographical Location

Lahn is located in the Emsland, a few kilometers east of moraine hills of Hümmling. The municipality is located southwest of Werlte between the Nordradde and Mittelradde.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are the towns Werlte, in the south the municipality Lähden in Samtgemeinde Heart Lake and the west by the municipalities Hüven and Soegel in Samtgemeinde Soegel in the north and east.

History

From Lahn is believed that the first settlement was made before the first millennium; several stone graves and tumuli point to an ancient settlement. Is first mentioned in the Lahn pawn deed of 1394. Describes the separation of the Hümmling from the territory of the Counts of Tecklenburg. Wording: " ... Ludeke Srappers and Willeken Söne to Löhn, ..."

In a directory on the lehnshörigen courtyards of the parish Werlte, the researchers dated to the 11th century, whereas three farms are already known to be assigned Lahn. A precise definition is therefore not to make here. The first control list with the names of the inhabitants Lahns dates from the year 1498/1499 (register exactionum in Emesland ).

Lahn consisted of 13 vollerbigen courtyards, one of which, however, have a farm in the 16th century is referred to as impoverished. Seven of these farms operate today in agriculture full-time and can look back on an up to 500 -year-old Court History.

Lahn has the typical form of an old cluster of buildings, this structure has remained largely intact even today.

The Breitlahner Shooting Club eV was founded in 1883 and celebrated in 2008 its 125th anniversary.

Special ammunition storage Lahn

From 1963 to 1992 the need in the field of community Lahn a "special ammunition depot " for nuclear weapons, commonly known as " nuclear stockpile Lahn " known. Honorary Mayor of the municipality is Josef Thesing ( CDU). The deputy mayor are Hermann Schomaker (CDU ) and Wilhelm Hüntelmann ( CDU).

Coat of arms

About a red sign foot, with a silver, consisting of a capstone and two supporting stones stone grave, three growing from a stalk of green oak leaves are on a gold field.

The passage grave, which refers to the prehistoric roots of today's community Lahn, located on the road to Hüven. The three oak leaves symbolize the possible meaning of the place name Lahn. The colors red and gold were chosen to represent the diverse connections to Samtgemeinde Werlte. Furthermore, were this the colors of the old monastery of Corvey, where the Hümmling in the Middle Ages was the tenth of charge.
