Leschères

Leschères is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Leschères lies 750 m above sea level. M., about eight kilometers north-northwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( a straight line ). The farming village extends in the Jura, in a depression at the eastern foot of the Bois de la Sourde, in the wooded area in the western high Jura, west of Taleinschnitts of Bienne.

The area of ​​8.19 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The landscape is dominated by natural features such as ridges and troughs that are oriented towards south-southwest - north- northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the area. History

Findings point to a settlement of the municipality of Leschères already during the Neolithic. Since the Middle Ages the village belonged to the dominion of the Abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche -Comté Leschères came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

The present village church of Leschères was built in the 19th century.

Population

With 208 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Leschères one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1906 310 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the beginning of the 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Leschères was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village.
