List of cities in Moldova

The list of cities in Moldova provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger cities of the South East European state of Moldova.

By far the largest agglomeration in Moldova is Chisinau with a population of 731 941 (as of 1 January 2005). Thus 20 percent of the country's population is concentrated in the capital region.

The table lists the cities over 10,000 inhabitants, the results of the Census ( Census ) of 15 January 1959 January 15, 1970 17 January 1979 12 January 1989 and 10 May 2004, and the overall management unit ( Rajon ) to which the city is listed. Gagauzia is an autonomous republic, the cities of Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol and Bender are independent and belong to any Rajon. The population figures refer to the respective urban settlement - the geographical area the city - not the city or municipality in the political sense.
