The Airport Lleida - Alguaire, in Catalan Aeroport de Lleida - Alguaire, is an airport located in the Catalan community Alguaire near the city of Lleida in Spain.

The airport was inaugurated on 17 January 2010, and has one terminal and a tower with a height of 61 meters. The built and used exclusively for civilian use airport is currently served only by the Spanish regional airline Air Nostrum with the connection Palma de Mallorca. Like several other airports created at the beginning of the 21st century, such as Ciudad Real or Castelló, the airport due to the banking crisis is hardly ever used.

Operator of the airport is Aéroports de Catalunya.

History

The site in Alguaire was as an alternative to the airfield Alfés 10 km south selected only at the beginning of the 21st century Lleida city center near the present AP -2.

Flight operations on the Aeródromo de Alfés on the northern edge of the territory of the municipality Alfés began in 1929, the airfield has since, with an interruption in 1936-1948, mainly used for air sports. Another smaller airfield existed before 1929 at Magraners in the east of Lleida.

With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 the site was an important military airfield in the air forces of the Spanish Republic, among others, during the Battle of Belchite. In the course of Aragon offensive in April 1938, the use of the now very frontnah located Aeródromo de Alfés ended almost entirely. In the final phase of the war in Catalonia then took advantage of both the German Condor Legion and the Italian Aviazione Legionaria at the turn of 1938/1939 the airfield.

Beginning of the millennium acquired the Generalitat de Catalunya to the airport from the Spanish Ministry of Defence Alfés with the aim of expanding to a commercial airport. Due to nature conservation point of view, here grows to 100 hectares a unique wild in Catalonia thyme Aue, where at least until 2006/ 2007, there was one occurrence of the Dupont's lark, the plan was rejected by the regional elections in 2003 and the new airport finally from 2007 in Alguaire built. Today, the Aerodrome d' Alfés only serves as the home court of the Royal Air Sports Association " Reial Club Lleida Aeri ".

The first scheduled flights from Alguaire occurred on 5 February 2010 by the Vueling to Palma and Paris.
