Louisiana IceGators

The Louisiana IceGators are an American ice hockey team from Lafayette, Louisiana. The team plays since 2009 in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2009 as a franchise of the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Louisiana IceGators were named after an eponymous team, which contested the ECHL from 1995 to 2005. In their inaugural season the new IceGators occupied in the 2009/10 season the seventh and last place thus the SPHL. Thus, they were the only team that did not qualify for the playoffs. In the 56 games of the regular season, they reached a total of 48 points. The team that fought out first in Blackham Coliseum its games, playing for the 2010/11 season in the Cajundome, which is significantly greater with a capacity of over 12,000 spectators and had already played in the IceGators from the ECHL. In addition, in August 2010, sold the team founder Danny Smith the franchise to Chuck Anselmo Jr. and his son Chuck Anselmo III.

Coach

First head coach of the Louisiana IceGators was in season 2009/10, the Canadian Ron Handy, who could collect as an active player among others, the New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues of experience in the National Hockey League. After three opening defeats, however, he was already back to his office and has since been responsible for the public relations of the franchises. Later in the premiere season of IceGators also Brent Sapergia, which was subsequently excluded from the league due to multiple unsportsmanlike conduct, John Gibson, and from December 2009 Dave MacIsaac stood behind the gang. Around a year later, Kevin Kaminski took over the job as head coach after this around two weeks had been previously released on the Mississippi River Kings.
