Lučenec

Lučenec ( pronunciation / i;? German license, Hungarian Losonc, Latin Lutetia ) is a town in central Slovakia with 28,475 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2011) and is the seat of Okres same name and one of the centers of the landscape Novohrad.

Geography

The city is located in the center of the Great Basin Juhoslovenská kotlina, more specifically in the Lučenská kotlina, near the border with Hungary. Through the town of Bach Krivánsky Brook, which flows some kilometers downstream in the Ipeľ ( German Eipel ) flows. The city center lies at an altitude of 190 m nm and is 75 kilometers from Banská Bystrica, Košice and 155 km of 252 km from the capital, Bratislava located ( road distance ).

History

It was first mentioned in writing in 1247 as Luchunch and consists of the districts Lučenec, Mala Ves and Opatová (1966 amalgamated ). Furthermore, places Mikušovce (1966-1992), Vidiná (1971-1990) and Pinciná (1988-1990) were once part of the city. In the 17th century Lučenec was briefly occupied by the Transylvanian Prince Gábor Bethlen and how Fiľakovo of Turks in the 18th century, the city the capital of the county, Hungary was Neograd ( Novohrad ).

In the 19th century the plague - Losonczer railway was built, linking the city with the Hungarian capital.

Until 1918 Lučenec belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award, the city from 1938 to 1945 came briefly back to Hungary.
