Lulu (singer)

Lulu ( born November 3, 1948 in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire as Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie ) is a Scottish pop singer and actress.

Life and career

Even with 15 years Lulu became famous with their version of the song Shout by the Isley Brothers, they recited together with her group The Luvvers. In 1965, she split from the band and landed several hit singles, including I'm a tiger. In the U.S., it was in 1967 with their title To Sir With Love five weeks at number one on the singles charts. Also worth mentioning is their interpretation of David Bowie songs The Man who sold the World, who was later turn gecovert in the 1990s by Nirvana.

In between Lulu came again and again as an actress in several movies and especially on television on ( among other things as a mother of Adrian Mole ). In 1967, she starred alongside Sidney Poitier in the film Challenged - Young thorns ( To Sir, with Love ) and also sang the theme song. Filmmakers, she is also an interpreter of the James Bond theme song The Man with the Golden Gun (1974 ) a term. She was also involved in the title song for the film Octopussy. In 1969 she represented Great Britain at the Euro Vision Song Contest with the title Boom Bang -A- Bang and won points with three other participants. This track took Lulu also in German language, which was also a hit single. In addition, Lulu took three more singles in the German language. In 1974 she had with The Man Who Sold The World a Top 10 hit in England. With the single Take Your Mama For A Ride they had another big hit. Together with Shakin 'Stevens, Freddie Fingers Lee, Alvin Stardust and Joe Brown joined Lulu 1980 and 1981 in more than 30 programs of music show Let's Rock under the direction of Jack Good on.

In the 1990s, she had a comeback with the boy band Take That and ended up back at square one on the British charts, was published in 2002 an album of pop duets, which she had sung with Elton John and Paul McCartney. Lulu was from 1969 to 1973 with Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees married.

While she worked with the boy band Take That, her having an affair with the singer of the band Jason Orange was said. This was denied by both the show An Audience with Take That.

Lulu is currently working for the BBC where she presents on Radio 2 a show on Sunday afternoon 15:30 to 17:00 ( local time in the UK).

Her autobiography was published in 2003 under the title Do not Wanna Fight No More.

In November 2009 Here Come the Girls, a joint tour of the UK with the singers Chaka Khan and Anastacia started. The program included both his own hits as well as cover versions. A year later, the tour continued, this time with a concert in Ireland. Instead of Chaka Khan now sang Heather Small, the lead singer of the band M People.
