Lutschental

Lutschental is a municipality in the Interlaken- Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Lutschental between Gündlischwand and Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland. From 12.9 km ² large municipality 30 percent is used for agriculture; 37 percent is forest. The summit Winteregg, the highest mountain in the municipality, is located at an altitude of 2555 meters. Lutschental lies in the valley which runs from Interlaken to Grindelwald. The name Lutschental is connected with the name of the river Lütschinen, which flows through the valley.

History

The scattered settlement was mentioned in 1238 as Liscinthal. In 1275 there was talk of Lyzental. In the 13th century Augustinian priory Interlaken acquired property and rights in Lutschental. 1349 people from the village involved in the uprising against the monastery. 1528 then they came to Bern and Interlaken bailiwick. Ecclesiastically, the village belongs to the parish Gsteig near Interlaken.

1888 emigrated from many residents and left the village. Work now exists in cattle and Alpine, in 1908 built power station of the Jungfrau Railway and tourism. The flooding of the Black Lütschinen in August 2005 devastated large parts of the village hard.
