Majcichov

Majcichov ( until 1927 slovak also " Matejchov "; Hungarian Majtény ) is a municipality in western Slovakia, with 1852 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Trnava district and parent Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowland at the confluence of Trnavka and Dolny Dudváh. The N.M. at the height of 149 m lying the center is 11 miles from Trnava.

The land of Majcichov borders on the communes: Zelenec, Opoj, Vlčkovce, Sered, Hoste, Abrahám, Pavlice and Voderady.

History

Majcichov was first mentioned in writing in 1266 and belonged to various landowners. In 1828 the town had 84 houses and 603 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • Roman Catholic Church, originally built in Romanesque style in the 13th century. The history of the church tower goes back to the 9th century, however,
  • Baroque chapel from the 18th century
  • Neoclassical country castle from the late 19th century
  • The Memorial House of Ján Palárik, who died in 1870 here
