María Mercader

María Mercader ( born March 6, 1918 in Barcelona, † January 26, 2011 in Rome) was a Spanish actress.

Life

Her film career began in 1939 in the operetta Molinos de viento movie. They played mainly in the years from 1939 to 1952 in Spanish and Italian productions. After that, she was rarely seen in films and television dramas. Mercader was a second cousin or sister of Ramon Mercader, the assassin of Leon Trotsky.

With the filming of Un garibaldino al convento 1942 she learned Vittorio De Sica know. This was the film's director and married to actress Giuditta Rissone. Although Mercader and De Sica in 1959 married in Mexico, but was not this marriage as official. It was not until her marriage in 1968 in Paris, De Sica had acquired French citizenship for divorce from Rissone, was recognized. Her two sons are the composer Manuel De Sica ( born 1949 ) and actor Christian De Sica ( born 1951 ).

In 1978, the authored her book La mia vita con Vittorio De Sica, which was also published in Spanish (1980 ) and French ( 1981).
