McKenzie County, North Dakota
The McKenzie County is a county located in the state of North Dakota in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Watford City.
Geography
The County is located in western North Dakota, bordering Montana and has an area of 7410 square kilometers, of which 308 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Williams County, Mountrail County, Dunn County, Billings County, Golden Valley County, Wibaux County ( Montana) and Richland County ( Montana).
History
McKenzie County was formed in 1905. It was named after Alexander McKenzie a political leader in North Dakota.

According to the census of 2000, there were 5,737 people in McKenzie County. Of these, 61 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 2,151 households and 1,548 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 77.36 percent White, 0.07 percent African Americans, 21.18 percent Native American, 0.05 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.14 percent from other races groups; 1.19 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.01 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,151 households out of which 34.5 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.3 percent were single mothers, 28.0 percent were non-families, 25.8 percent of all households and 13.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.17.
Based on the county the population was spread from 30.6 percent population under 18 years, 5.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 15.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 29,342, and the median income for a family was $ 34,091. Males have a median income of $ 26,351, women $ 20,147. The per capita income was $ 14,732. 13.7 percent of families and 17.2 percent of families were below the poverty line. Of these, 22.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 12.7 percent of those 65 years.
