Melchor Ocampo is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, the metropolitan region around Mexico City. The community had in 2010 50.240 inhabitants, its surface area is 17.9 km ².

Administrative seat and largest of nine places in the municipality of the same name, also known as San Miguel Melchor Ocampo Tlaxomulco. Other major settlements in the municipality are 2 Colonia de Septiembre, San Francisco Tenopalco and Lomas de Tenopalco.

Geography

Melchor Ocampo is located about 20 km north of the city limits of Mexico City at about 2260 m altitude.

The municipality of Melchor Ocampo borders the Municipalities Cuautitlán, Teoloyucan, Nextlalpan and Tultepec.
