Miami Gardens is a city in Miami -Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida with 107 167 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Miami Gardens is located 10 km north of Miami. Adjacent municipalities are Miami Lakes, Opa- locka and North Miami Beach (Miami- Dade ) and Miramar and West Park ( Broward ).

History

On 13 May 2003, the CDP ( Census-designated places ) Andover, Bunche Park, Carol City, Lake Lucerne, Norland, Opa- locka North, and Scott Lake were merged after prior consultation among the population for the City of Miami Gardens. At its inception, the United States Census Bureau estimated the population of the city on 100 842.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 107 167 inhabitants spread over 34 284 households. The population density was 2,068.9 inh. / Km ². Miami Gardens is the largest city in Florida, consisting mostly of African-American residents. 18.3 % of the population were white, 76.3 % African American, 0.2% Native American and 0.6 % Asian Americans. 2.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 22.0 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 28.7 % of all households lived in 45.7 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 78.4 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.28 persons and the average family size is 3.66 people.

30.6 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.6% were 20-39 years old, 25.5% were 40-59 years old and 16.2 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 36 years. 46.8 % of the population were male and 53.2 % female.

The average annual income was $ 44,215, while 19.3 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 45.17 % of the population spoke Spanish 51.09 % and 3.72% spoke Haitian.

Facilities

In the city, the Sun Life Stadium is (Formerly Dolphin Stadium ), home stadium of the NFL franchise Miami Dolphins and the Florida Marlins MLB franchise. It is also a venue for the Miami Hurricanes, the college sports team of the University of Miami. With the Calder Race Track, a horse race track, is another major sports venue located in the city.

Schools Miami Norland High School, Miami Carol City High School and St. Thomas University and Florida Memorial University are located in the city of Miami Gardens. In addition, Miami Gardens has 17 Elementary Schools, four Middle Schools and the North Dade Regional Library.

Traffic

Miami Gardens is very conveniently located.
