Miege in Valais

Miege (German Meanies ) is a municipality in the district of Sierre in the French speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Geography

Miege is located 2 km north of Sierre on the southern slopes of Mont Bovin. To the east of La Raspille forms a natural border against Salquenen. The place is located in wine-growing region, which accounts for the largest part of the municipal area and up to 824 m above sea level. M. reaches up.

History

Miege was first mentioned in 1226 as Mieio documented. First proof of human presence are graves from the Iron Age and the early Middle Ages. Since the 12th century the place was under the rule of the Bishop of Sierre.

Since 1839 there is the municipality, in 1872 came the civic community to do so.
