Morgana Lefay

Morgana Lefay is a heavy metal group from Sweden. The band changed its name from 1999 to 2001 on legal grounds under the name Lefay. Since 2004, she is wearing her original name. Named after the band is a female figure from the mythology of King Arthur, Morgan le Fay see.

History

1986-1998: The beginnings

Morgana Lefay was founded in 1986 by the two guitarists Tony Eriksson and Stefan Jonsson, bassist Joakim Lundberg and drummer Jonas Söderlund under the name Damage. Two years later, the band recruited former Sepher Yetzirah - singer Charles Rytkönen, a year later it was renamed Morgana Lefay. In the same year Jonsson left the band and was replaced by Tommi Karppanen Sepher Yetzirah by.

In this cast the first album Symphony of the Damned was recorded. The plate was self-financed and released in 1990 in an edition of 537 copies. When the band in 1991 in the FS Studios worked in Söderhamn on demo Rumours of Rain, Joakim Lundberg left her. He was replaced by Joakim Heder.

After the release of Rumours of Rain, the band of the Black Mark Production was signed. To stretch the demo on album length, Morgana Lefay played a song Knowing Just as I, after the second album was named. This was published in 1993 and came to the scene to great response. In the same year, the group played in the Wave Station LA Studios in Sweden writing the next album, The Secret Doctrine, published in December. The release was followed by the beginning of 1994 the first European tour the band.

In April 1994, Morgana Lefay filmed their first video clip for the song Rooms of Sleep before Tommi Karppanen left the group in June. His post took Peter Grehn of the band Fantasmagoria. The group performed concerts with him in Finland and Sweden as well as an appearance at the Popkomm in Cologne before Grehn returned again to his band. He was replaced by Daniel Persson.

1995 the third album Sanctified, which received excellent reviews again. The band toured with Cemetary, Memento Mori and Tad Morose in Europe and turned video clips to the songs To Isengard In The Court of the Crimson King. Likewise, followed by a headlining tour in Sweden. In the same year published the record company with Past, Present, Future, a compilation of the quieter, mostly very melancholy songs of the band, with sculpures of Pain, the new recording of Symphony of the Damned and the two cover versions Lost Reflection ( originally by Crimson Glory ) Voulez Vous and ( Abba ) includes four new songs. At the same time Morgana Lefay toured as opening act for Gamma Ray through Europe.

1996 published the album Maleficium and a music video for the title song. In 1997, the band toured for the first time as a headliner through Europe, with Solitude Aeturnus and Brainstorm in the opening act. In the same year another compilation, this time appeared with the faster songs the band. Shortly thereafter, Joakim Heder, Daniel Persson and Jonas Söderlind left the band, leaving Charles Rytkönen and Tony Eriksson back. The three stepped out musicians to publish in 1999 with Persson on vocals at Morgana Lefays record company a self-titled album under the name Morgana Lefay, which had musically nothing whatsoever to do with the previous albums. Since Rytkönen and Eriksson were considered as the main songwriter and figureheads of the band ever since, the album was neither the press nor the fans appeal and is now not recognized as the official publication. 1999-2004: Lefay

Rytkönen and Eriksson pick Meanwhile Peter Grehn back in the band. This brought with bassist and drummer Robin Engström, Mikael Åsentorp with like two other musicians from his band Fantasmagoria. The group shortened its name for legal reasons at Lefay, signed a deal with Noise Records and released the 1999 album The Seventh Seal, which ties seamlessly to Maleficium. The band toured with Nevermore, Nocturnal Rites and Sacred Steel through Europe. In the summer they began with the recording of a new recording of the Morgana Lefay - debuts Symphony of the Damned. In the same year the band at Wacken Open Air occurred.

A year later Lefay released the concept album ... --- ... (SOS). The release was followed by appearances at festivals such as the Bang Your Head, and a headlining European tour under the motto Lost In Europe with Angel Dust, Steel Prophet and Storm Hammer. Then it was quiet around the band and resolution rumors making the rounds. The band was only sporadically concerts. Bassist Mikael Åsentorp was replaced by Fredrik Lundberg.

2004 to present: Comeback

In September 2004, Lefay signed under its original name Morgana Lefay by their old label Black Mark Production a new record deal and announced a new studio album. Grand Materia, so the title of the new work is a concept album about the French alchemist Nicholas Flamel and was released in April 2005. At the same time the band toured as a headliner with Lanfear and Mindcrime the opening act through Europe. Among the songs Hollow and I Roam music videos were filmed. In the same year, the band performed at the Sweden Rock and Wacken Open Air and also for the first time ever in England and the United States.

Drummer Robin Engström left the band in May 2006 and was replaced by Pelle Åkerlind. In March 2007, the album Aberrations Of The Mind appeared.

  • Charles Rytkönen sang in 2002 as a guest vocalist on the Tad Morose - album Matters of The Dark at the songs Reason Of The Ghost and the title track with (Source: CD Matters of the Dark by Tad Morose in Additional backing voices ). He has also acted as a prime candidate for the vocalist position at Seven Witches.
  • Another appearance as guest vocalist was Charles Rytkönen published in February 2007 on the album Miklagard - The History of the Vikings - Volume II of rebellion, where he mot the song Vi SEGLAR Miklagard sang.
  • Except for Symphony of the Damned all album art of the band by the Swedish artist Kristian " Necrolord " Wahlin were drawn. On all these albums finds himself a kind of hourglass whose glass is cracked and its content consists of light. It has grown over the years to an optical character recognition of the band.
