Moritz Eggert

Moritz Eggert ( born November 25, 1965 in Heidelberg ) is a German composer and pianist.

Life

Moritz Eggert was born as the son of Mara Eggert and Herbert Heckmann. After early piano studies in 1975 he launched his education at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main, first in the fields of theory and piano with Wolfgang Wagenhäuser, then studied composition at Kühnl. After graduation, he studied piano at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurt with Leonard Hokanson. In 1986 he moved to Munich to study composition with Killmayer at the Munich Musikhochschule. Later made ​​further studies with Raymund Havenith (piano ) and Hans- Jürgen von Bose (composition). In 1992 he spent a year as a postgraduate student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (composition with Robert Saxton ).

1989 Moritz Eggert was a prize winner at the International Gaudeamus Competition for Performers of new music. As a pianist, he first presented the complete works for piano solo by Hans Werner Henze in one evening.

As a composer Moritz Eggert has won several awards, including the Composition Prize of the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Schneider- Schott Music Prize Mainz ( 1996), the first prize at the " ad referendum " Competition of SMCQ in Montreal, the Siemens Award and the Alexander Zemlinsky prize. 1994/95 he lived half a year in Paris on a scholarship from the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. As Rompreisträger he spent 1996/97 a year in the Villa Massimo. Together with Sandeep Bhagwati 1991 he founded the A • DEvantgarde festival for new music by young composers, in 2011, for the eleventh time, now under the leadership of Markus Lehmann-Horn and John X. Schachtner, took place.

1997 Bavarian TV produced a one-hour film portrait (directed by Klaus Voswinckel ). To Eggert's most famous works of the piano cycle belongs Hämmerklavier. In addition to the orchestral and chamber music is a particular focus of his work in the genre of musical theater. Previously, he wrote seven full-length operas and several works for dance theater and ballet. His most recent major works include the play Scapa Flow for Large Orchestra, and the full-length song cycle New poet loved ones - 20 settings of love poems by contemporary authors.

His recent works include the opera The screw (together with Hans New Rock, 2004, Mannheim, Germany ) and the acclaimed football oratorio The depth of the space (Ruhr Triennale, also commissioned by the Cultural Programme of the 2006 World Cup ), co-written with Michael Klaus. Moritz Eggert wrote the music for the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup 2006 ( designed with Christian Stückl, directing and Marlene Pohley, equipment), and a new opera for the Opera Bonn ( Freax, along with Hannah Dübgen, UA September 2007) that a scandal to it's director Christoph Schlingensief. A collage of all 22 Mozart operas ( From delicate pole) for the opening concert of the Salzburg Festival was broadcast on 23 July 2006 in the whole of Europe live on television. In the 2006/2007 season of six productions of operas Eggert at home and abroad were seen. His Fußballett for the Vienna Opera Ball 2008 caught the first local performance of contemporary music an international sensation. 2009 will be Innprojekt was on the water singing at the Festival Erl listed.
