Nadur (or In - Nadur ) is a city in the northeastern part of the island of Gozo, which belongs to the Republic of Malta. It has 4220 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2010).

History

The Maltese word " nadur " in German means "Outlook" and is derived from the Arabic word " Nadara " from. Hence it is also the motto of the city.

There are no archaeological documents by their first inhabitants would give information about the colonization Nadurs. Another watchtower in Nadur is Ta ' Kenuna Tower, built by the British in the mid 19th century. He served as a telegraph link between the islands of Malta and Gozo. From the top of this tower you can see the largest part of Gozo, Comino and the northern part of Malta.

Nadur today

Nadur, with over 4,000 inhabitants to Victoria, the second largest and one of the most important cities of Gozo. A large part of the population emigrated after the Second World War in the United States, Canada or Australia from.

In Nadur there are still quite a few farmers - mostly part-time farmers. From the orchards of Nadur are many local fruits such as plums, peaches, apples, oranges and lemons. The parish of Nadur

The religious festival of Nadur, Mnarja is celebrated on June 29. The festival was very popular with honeymooners and its name refers to the beginning of summer. It is derived from the Italian word " luminaria " (Eng.: lighting) ago. The festival is deeply rooted in the Maltese summer tradition.

The popular statue of Peter and Paul in 1882 was carved in Marseille. It is one of the masterpieces that adorn the magnificent church. Nadur was raised on 28 April in 1688 by Bishop Cocco Palmeri for their own parish. Reverend Bernhard Haber was their first pastor. The parish church of St. Peter and Paul is a major work of art in architectural and picturesque church respects. The Basilica of St. Peter & Paul

The construction of the present church began on 28 September in 1760. It was designed by Maltese architect Giuseppe Bonnici ( 1707-1779 ).

In 1907 she was refurbished, the aisles, the dome and the facade of Prof. FS Sciortino were designed in the style of the Italian Renaissance. The ceiling paintings that represent scenes from the lives of saints Peter and Paul, was created by Lazarro Pisani ( from Żebbuġ ). The architectural decorations are the work of the Italian Pio Cellini. The renovation was mainly operated by Archpriest Martin Camilleri.

On 26 June 1967, which is in the diocese of Gozo Church by Pope Paul VI was. raised to the basilica.
