Neftekamsk

Neftekamsk (Russian Нефтекамск, Bashkir Нефтекама ) is a large city with 121 733 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan.

Location

Neftekamsk is located on the western foothills of the Ural Mountains in the northwestern part of Bashkortostan, near the borders with the Republic of Udmurtia and the Perm region. Near the city of the Kama River flows. The distance to the Republic capital Ufa is about 220 km, the nearest town is 30 km away Agidel.

History

Neftekamsk is a relatively young city, it was established in 1957 with the development of an oil reservoir. This gave the place its name: Neftekamsk literally means " oil city on the Kama ."

1963 Neftekamsk received the status of a city. In the 1960s and 1970s originated in the place other industrial objects that led to growth of the city. End of the 1980s the population of Neftekamsk exceeded for the first time the city mark of 100,000 inhabitants.

Neftekamsk forms an urban district, which besides the city itself was the settlement ( up to 2005 briefly urban-type settlement ) include energetics and the villages Amsja, Chmeljowka, Krym - Sarajevo, Marino, Taschkinowo and Tschischma together with 11,884 inhabitants. The total population of the city circle is thus 131 399 (as of 2010 ).

Ethnicity

According to the census of Russia from 2010: Tatars - 31.5%, Russians - 29.7%, Bashkirs - 25.8 %, Mari - 9.9 %, other ethnicity - 3.1%.

Economy

In Neftekamsk include the truck and bus plant Nefaz (main shareholder KAMAZ ) and a leather factory of the largest employers. Furthermore, in and around the city plays the mining and processing of mineral oil, which is mainly operated by the regional Bashkir oil company Bashneft, a important role.

In Neftekamsk has its headquarters and the Hockey Club Toros, founded in 1988.
