Nelson County (Kentucky)

Nelson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bardstown, which was named after William Bard, a patron of the city.

Geography

The County is located just north of the geographic center of Kentucky, is located in the northwest about 50 km from the state of Indiana and has an area of ​​1098 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Spencer County, Anderson County, Washington County, Marion County, LaRue County, Hardin County and Bullitt County.

History

Nelson County was formed on October 18, 1784 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named for Thomas Nelson Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
