Öckerö Municipality

Öckerö is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Bohuslän. The main town of the municipality is Öckerö.

Geography

The municipality is usually attributed to the Gothenburg archipelago. It consists of ten permanently inhabited islands, all located between the lighthouse island Vinga and Marstrand. The islands are in detail Grötö, Hyppeln, Källö - Knippla, Bjorko, Fotö, Hälsö, Kalvsund, Rörö, Hönö and Öckerö. The remaining smaller islands are not inhabited year-round.

Hönö is the largest island. From Lilla Varholmen on Hisingen in Gothenburg there are free ferry service to Hönö and Bjorko. From Hönö there is a bridge to Fotö and Öckerö, from which another bridge leading to Hälsö. The other islands were availabe with either passenger or car ferries.
