Oleksandr Bagach

Oleksandr Bahatsch (Ukrainian Олександр Багач, English transcription Oleksandr Bahach, . Maybe Russian Александр Багач, Aleksandr Bagatsch / Aleksandr Bagach; born November 21, 1966 in Matussiw ) is a former Ukrainian shot putter, who began his career in the Soviet Union.

The second in the European Junior Championships in 1985 in the shot put champion in 1989 the Soviet Union. In the European Cup in 1989, he was disqualified for doping, which cost the Soviet men's team to qualify for the World Cup.

At the European Indoor Championships in 1992 in Geneva, he was again allowed to start and won with 20.75 meters gold. At the World Indoor Championships in Toronto in 1993, he won bronze with 20.63 meters behind the Americans Stulce Mike and Jim Doehring. At the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 by the Swiss Werner Günthör won against the Americans Randy Barnes and Mike Stulce. Mike Stulce was disqualified after the event because of doping, and Bahatsch received later for 20.40 meters bronze.

1994 Bahatsch defended at the European Indoor Championships in Paris his title with 20.66 meters. At the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1994, there was a triple victory of the Ukrainian shot putter. Oleksandr Klymenko won with 20.78 meters before Bahatsch with 20.34 meters and 19.59 meters with Roman Wirastjuk. At the 1995 World Championships Bahatsch finished with 20.38 meters of space 4

After Bahatsch had become at the European Indoor Championships in Stockholm in 1996 with 19.65 meters sixth, he won at the Olympic Games in Atlanta with 20.75 meters bronze behind Randy Barnes and John Godina (both USA). At the World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 he won with 20.94 meter silver behind compatriot Yuri Bilonoh. At the 1997 World Championships in Athens Bahatsch won with 21.47 meters before Godina 21.44 meters. Five days later it was announced that Bahatsch had been tested positive for the stimulant ephedrine. Bahatsch had to return his medal and received a caution, Godina was world champion.

1998 occupied Bahatsch at the European Indoor Championships in Valencia with 19.89 meters square 7 Outdoors at the European Championships 1998 in Budapest Bahatsch won with 21.17 meters gold. Also victorious Bahatsch was at the World Indoor Championships in Maebashi in 1999 with 21.41 meters. At the 1999 World Championships in Seville Bahatsch won with 21.26 meters bronze behind Cottrell J. Hunter and Oliver -Sven Buder.

Bahatsch the 1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999 Ukrainian Champion had become, completed his last international launch on February 27th at the 2000 European Indoor Championships in Ghent. After he had confidently won with 21.18, his drug test was positive, and he has been banned as a repeat offender for life. The Finn Timo Aaltonen was subsequently declared with 20.62 meters to the winner.
