Onís

Onís is a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain. Bounded on the north by Llanes, on the south by León, to the west of Cabrales and to the east of Cangas de Onís.

History

The first evidence of settlement can be found from the Neolithic period. Various Indo-European tribes mingled with the Native tribes. The first annalistic notices are dated with the invasion of the Roman legions. The area around Onis was here an important enclave during the wars between Rome and the Cantabrian tribes. 1504, the first alcalde was used.
