Orlov, Kirov Oblast
Orlov (Russian Орлов ) is a small town in Kirov Oblast (Russia) with 6959 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 75 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Kirov on the left bank of the Vyatka, a tributary of the Kama.
Orlov is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
Orlov was first mentioned in 1459 under that name, was known in 1600 as Orlowez and received city rights in 1780 as Orlov.
From 1923 to 1992 the town was named Khalturin, after three kilometers away in the village Werchnije Schurawli (then Chalewinskaja ) born Narodnaya Volya - member and Tsar Assassin Stepan Khalturin ( 1857-1882 ).
