Pagsanjan, Laguna

Pagsanjan is a Philippine municipality in the province of Laguna, in the administrative region IV, Calabarzon. It has 39 313 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 16 barangays. It is classified as a community of the third income class in the Philippines and as a partially urbanized.

Pagsanjans neighboring municipalities are Magdalena and Santa Cruz in the West, Lumban in the north, Cavinti in the south. The topography of the city is characterized by flatlands, rolling hills and mountainous landscapes. To the east of the municipality are the famous Pagsanjan Falls.

The municipality was once a district of Lumban. In 1668 founded eight Chinese and Japanese merchants the place Pagsanjan, strategically located between the rivers Balanac and Bumbungan that flow into the Laguna de Bay. On December 12, 1668, the community was granted town rights.

1812 was born in the town of Pedro Pelaez, who is considered the father of Säkularisierunsbewegung within the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines.
