Perungudi

Perungudi (Tamil: பெருங்குடி Peruṅkuṭi [ peɾɯŋɡuɖi ] ) is a district of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Perungudi is one of 15 zones ( zones ) of Chennai and includes eleven districts ( wards ).

Perungudi is located in the south of Chennai, roughly 15 kilometers from the city center, close to the coast of the Bay of Bengal. By Sholinganallur extend the East Coast Road, which runs from Chennai along the coast to the south, and the parallel Rajiv Gandhi Salai ( Old Mahabalipuram Road). Along the Rajiv Gandhi Road, the so-called " IT corridor", in which numerous information technology companies have settled covers. Due to the elevated train MRTS Perungudi is connected to the center of Chennai. In addition to the actual district Perungudi Perungudi zone belong to a series of adjacent neighborhoods. Through the expansion of Chennai, the largest part of the area is urbanized. The area is home to Perungudi with the bottom of Pallikaranai but also the remains of a once extensive wetland, albeit of the once 5,000 acres, only about one-tenth is left.

By 2011, Perungudi was managed by the Panchayat system township (town panchayat ) in Kanchipuram district with 12,505 inhabitants ( 2001 census). The place was, however, long since grown together with Chennai and become a part of the agglomeration of Chennai. Due to the expansion of the city of Chennai, Perungudi was administratively incorporated in Chennai. The former municipality of Perungudi and also eingemeindeten cities Pallikaranai and Ullagaram - Puzhitivakkam as well as the villages Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Jalladiampet and Madipakkam the new zone Perungudi was formed.
